My name is Carlie
I’m an American from Texas living in Cape Town, South Africa. When I turned 30, I went through what I like to refer to as a “millennial mid-life crisis.” As a result of that, I ended my marriage, quit my job, sold my house, and boarded a plane for what was meant to be a 3-month “eat, pray, love” trip to South Africa. After two weeks in Cape Town, I decided I couldn’t leave. Fast forward 4 years later and I’m living the life I’ve always envisioned for myself. I’m remarried, and my husband and I have a beautiful one year old daughter together.

Four years ago, I came to Cape Town for what was supposed to be a 3-month adventure. I was searching for clarity, peace, and maybe a little bit of magic. What I found was a city that felt like home from the moment I stepped off the plane.
Cape Town is where mountains meet the sea, where daily life feels like a postcard, and where I’ve built a beautiful new chapter with my husband and daughter. As an American living abroad, I know how overwhelming (and exciting!) it can be to discover a new place.
